ELLE R_500x500

Elle

Elle was raised in Yorba Linda, California. Before enrolling in CIP’s Long Beach program, Elle was living at home and spent time making jewelry and looking for employment opportunities.

As a CIP student, Elle is now studying Culinary Arts at Long Beach City College (LBCC). She feels lucky to be enrolled in one of the few in-person classes at LBCC offering instruction in cooking and safety strategies. Elle enjoys cooking new recipes in her apartment where she lives independently with a roommate.

Elle worked as an intern at CIP’s front desk and feels this position has helped her with efficiency, communication skills, and problem-solving.  She also volunteers to help clean up the city of Long Beach and was recently interviewed on NBC4 news in Los Angeles.

Elle is currently looking for employment opportunities and hopes to secure a job at Vons’ Supermarket this summer. Her special interests include crocheting blankets and scarves, making jewelry, bike riding, and learning to improve her writing, reading, and artistic skills.

When asked about what CIP means to her, Elle shared “CIP means comfort. It’s a nice push in the right direction,” she continued.  “The Long Beach staff has helped me with my communication and advocacy skills. Also, students should not be afraid to ask questions at CIP because they will not be judged.”

Elle is proud of her mixed-race heritage that includes Native American, Mexican American, and Scottish roots. Looking ahead, she would like to secure a job, complete her degree, continue with her many hobbies, and travel.
