Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence!
Our CIP Berkshire Center was founded in Lee, Massachusetts. A vision of Dr. Michael McManmon, Psychologist and person on the autism spectrum, CIP was originally know as Transitional Apartment Programming (TAP) and filled a critical need for community-based services.
Our CIP Brevard Center opens in Melbourne, Florida. In the early 2000's Dr. Michael McManmon had piloted an autism-specific program called "Aspire" at the CIP Berkshire location. Building on the success of this program, and based on the recommendation of a trusted staff, CIP opened it's second location.
Following the pattern of Center's beginning with the letter "B", and based on in part by a visit to IU Bloomington where Dr. Michael McManmon's daughter played basketball, CIP Bloomington was opened in collaboration with Director Karen Thomas where is quickly grew attracting young adults from the mid-west.
After a knee injury in college in Vermont brought Dan McManmon home for a summer he began working for CIP in marketing. During this time, Dan noticed an immense amount of traffic to CIP's website from California. The idea to expand was hatched. After a few visits to the Bay Area, Berkeley was selected due to it's vibrant and welcoming community.
CIP launched our first two-week summer program for high school students at UC Berkeley in Berkeley, CA. Dan McManmon, CIP's President, was supporting the opening of the CIP Berkeley Center at the time and assisted with the inaugural program. Summer@CIP went on to expand to all CIP Center locations.
Continued interest in the CIP program in California followed by an extensive search by key CIP staff identified Long Beach as the perfect place to start CIP's next Center location. Access to high-quality 2 and 4-year college options, apartment-style housing, and a great public transportation system attracts many to this low key coastal city.
The opening of the CIP Spectrum Playhouse in Lee, MA. CIP Berkshire students participate in drama modules and host an annual theater performance for the public.
The opening of the CIP Good Purpose Gallery in Lee, MA. A professional art gallery hosting professional artists who are neurodivergent themselves and/or supportive of the gallery's mission to showcase the work of neurodivergent people. All CIP students can participate in an annual art exhibit.
