- What are the expected outcomes of Summer@CIP?
- Students develop Person-Centered Plans, gain self-confidence, and independent living experiences. They walk away with lasting memories and lifelong friendships. A detailed assessment is provided after the program is complete.
- What does a day at Summer@CIP look like?
- Students will participate in CIP’s comprehensive curriculum which includes addressing and building executive functioning skills, social skills, and life skills. Students will be presented with additional skills-building exercises designed to assist in further preparing them for their transition to life after high school. These topics include: budgeting, future goal planning, learning the differences between high school and college, tackling housekeeping, finding the right volunteer experience, and much more! Throughout our two-week sessions, several fun activities are planned based on your student’s area of interest. Students are encouraged to reach outside of their comfort zone to engage in new activities. Past activities and destinations have included ropes courses, theme parks, and professional sporting events. Participants will also have some scheduled downtime to relax and socialize with peers.
- What can parents and students expect to receive at the end of the program?
- Parents receive an evaluation of student’s progress. Students get a copy of Person-Centered Plan and an option to receive 1 college credit for the completion of Summer@CIP.
- What do students do in the classroom?
- Participants get a taste of CIP’s comprehensive curriculum which includes: executive functioning, social thinking, and life skills. Our programming does not include academics as the focus of the program is to build life skills and have fun.
- How many students are accepted in each program?
- Generally each program has up to 24 participants. All students are screened to help make sure they are a good fit for the program.
- Where are the programs located?
- CIP currently offers programs in Massachusetts, Indiana, Northern California, Southern California, and Florida (dates and locations are subject to change and usually announced in mid-December).
- Where do the students live?
- Students live in overnight student housing with a roommate. This way they can practice independent living skills in a safe and supported manner. On-call overnight staffing is available 24/7.
- What kind of qualification and training do staff have?
- CIP utilizes our own very qualified and experienced individuals from our full-year program to operate our summer programs. Many are master's level in a related field and all have extensive training and have worked with us on a full-time basis for many years. Licensed clinicians are also a part of our team. All staff is very compassionate and understanding of the needs of students and their families. The staff is certified in CPR and Crisis Prevention Training from CPI. CIP provides a high level of training ongoing and training specific to the Summer Program and our curriculum.
- How are medications managed during this program?
- Students must show independence with taking medications but will have daily reminders by staff. Students will be requested to bring their medication prepackaged in two weekly pill packs. Pill-packs are set-up by the student and/or the family before the first day of camp. Please note that CIP does not employ medical staff during the program.
- How are roommates selected?
- CIP will review all applications once a student is accepted and match students with others of similar interest and age as best as possible.
- What kind of transportation will students use during the summer program?
- Students will generally utilize some public transportation, be expected to walk 15-30 minutes in a given day, and will use van transportation for some outings and activities.
- Can transportation to and from the local airport be arranged?
- Transportation to and from the airport can be provided for an additional fee.
- What is included in the cost?
- Summer@CIP tuition covers the activities, budgeting practice, room and board (3 meals a day), and 24/7 staffing support.
- Are scholarships available?
- Yes, candidates can create their own video illustrating why they would like to attend CIP’s summer program. Winners receive partial scholarships.
- What are the payment options?
- Families must enroll in FACTS Tuition Management System to submit a credit card or bank account payment.
- How can I apply?
- Apply here! An email will be sent to confirm receipt of materials, please make a copy for your records. Applications are considered for the program on a rolling basis. Faculty decisions are underway. Students will be contacted with decisions by email. Upon acceptance into the program a non-refundable deposit and program registration forms will be required in order to reserve your spot.
