Melissa Roemer has worked in the field of social services, supporting individuals with learning differences and Autism for 20 years. She previously found success working with people on setting and achieving goals towards their health, education, and careers. She is excited to be part of a program like CIP Bloomington that is truly person-centered. Melissa loves being a part of a person’s growth. It is awesome to witness them learn, adapt, and ultimately achieve success.
As the Academic Coordinator, Melissa assists students with learning and applying executive functioning skills within their educational journeys. Individual and group modules focus on what students can expect in the post-secondary learning environment and how to navigate it. This includes identifying student challenges, requesting accommodations, tracking progress, celebrating successes, discovering their interests, and planning their academic path to support them. Melissa is also a Student Advisor at CIP Bloomington. As an advisor, she will reinforce students’ paths on the continuum of growth with a focus on banking, budgeting, paying bills, goal setting, time management, problem solving, and understanding personal responsibilities. Melissa earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from IU Bloomington, IN, where she excelled in courses such as the psychology of learning and developmental psychology. Over the course of her professional career, she has utilized her education to teach, instruct, and coach children, young adults, and the elderly in self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-advocacy, and achieving goals.
When Melissa is not at work, you usually can find her snuggling with her cat, being around her family and friends, playing board games and trivia games, watching movies, and/or listening to music. The best advice that I have ever received is: Never feel bad for the way you feel. Strive to understand it and learn from it. I try to live by that each day. Learning is a lifelong journey!
