Mike has a background in theater and filmmaking (BA in these fields from Columbia College Chicago) and uses theater games, improv, and storytelling as his primary teaching tools in social communications.
He also holds a MA in Education from UC Berkeley and taught both middle school and high school (seven years as a high school English teacher). He has a strong passion for the personal development of his students. He also served as an Assistant Scoutmaster in a very bust boy scout troop for fifteen years and brings his dedication to leadership training and collaborative hands-on learning to his curriculum.
He currently serves as the Director of Education at Berkeley Community Media, a non-profit public access television station. He heads up the Internship Program where he guides young filmmakers in their training and creation of narrative and news related digital content. Several CIP students have been in the BCM Internship Program.
Mike has spent years active in his community, including as a Sunday school teacher, youth detention minister, and volunteer for various peace and social justice groups. Mike is active in the theater and often performs in shows and teaches acting. Spending time with his family and friends is a huge reward.
