Bernadette joined CIP National office in March 2017. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Learning and Child development. She has taught in both public and private schools as a Special Education teacher. Bernadette specializes in working with students on the Autistic Spectrum and those with Language Based Learning Disabilities. During her time at Curtis Blake Day School she integrated performing arts into the social studies curriculum to support language development and public speaking skills. She created an early morning program for students in Pelham Elementary School to encourage friendships through movement and cooperative activities. Drawing on a rich background, she integrated exercise, social communication, sensory games and self-regulation techniques to increase self awareness and self modulation. In addition, she sat on the Board of Directors and taught integrated art classes at Amherst Community Art Center.
When not kayaking on the local rivers and lakes of Western Massachusetts, Bernadette enjoys traveling, gardening, hiking, snowshoeing, and cooking. Her favorite time of the week is when she is sharing dinners with her blended family.
