If you were to meet Eugene, the first thing (beyond your name) he would want to know would be where your roots were–he would want to know as much as you were willing to tell him about the city or town where you and your family came from. Eugene has passion for history and geography; places and people’s histories fascinate him.
Last term, Eugene had an internship at the Monroe County Historical Society handling and organizing legal documents from as old as over a century ago. This term he has an internship with a cartography specialist at the Geosciences Library at Indiana University. Because Eugene has been managing his time and budget so well this term, I could spend some of our advising time visiting him and his job coach, Bridget, at work.
Seeing him almost meditatively focused on his tasks within the categorized rows of small towers of drawers holding drawn and printed representations of the world’s cities, seas, and lands, it was clear that he had found a special, unique niche.
