By Jamie Kennedy, Brevard Center Health and Wellness Coordinator
Andy, a first-year student from Oviedo, Florida, has been working hard to lose weight and improve his personal grooming skills. He has lost 10 pounds since the start of the semester at CIP and is an active team member during group Health and Wellness sessions.
Andy’s exercise goals continue to improve as he puts forth great effort and has attuned himself to learning new movements during individual sessions. Currently, he is focusing on coordination exercises using a jump rope, practicing standard sit-ups, and understanding kettlebell swings, while also actively working towards maintaining a healthier diet.
Andy’s determination and self-motivation to become a healthier student is evident on a daily basis. His enthusiastic and humorous outlook helps foster more attitudes like his within the group setting. Andy has become a force to be reckoned with during team-building games like dodge ball and his humor helps bring the team closer together. Continuing to set an example, Andy is always on time for Wellness sessions and has flawless attendance.
Not always a physically active individual, Andy now exercises 3-4 times per week and is capable of 30 minutes of continuous movement, without complaint or frequent water breaks. Even though he is a quieter student, his behavior and the effort he puts forth to arrive on time and work hard for 20-30 minutes speak loudly.
In addition to exercise and nutrition, Andy has made great strides in learning how to improve his physical appearance to cater to specific situations. Shaving, dressing for his internship or wearing gym clothes are all independently monitored to be successful at both CIP and the work place. Over the past few months Andy has accomplished many goals and continues to motivate himself to live a healthier lifestyle. Way to go, Andy!
