Maria was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received her BA in Art from California State University Dominguez Hills, and a MA in Marital and Family Therapy / Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University.
In the past she has worked with adolescents at a teen runaway shelter and worked with adults and their children at a substance abuse/mental illness treatment facility before coming to CIP. She believes in the power art has to heal and how it is an effective tool in assisting CIP students to express feelings, visualize solutions to their challenges and empowers them to find their voice and individuality.
In her spare time she enjoys painting and printmaking, hiking, and rummaging through flea markets around the world.
