Kara Demler, A.A.

Kara has worked in professional theater and music as a Stage Director, Teacher, Producer, Casting Assistant, and Performer for over 25 years.

She is the Founder and Artistic Director of the popular Berkshire Children’s Theater (since 2004) and has taught “Kidsact” classes for Barrington Stage Company. Kara has been a Stage Director for many Berkshire and Pennsylvania schools and has also served as an Associate Producer / Company Manager for the Theater Guild in NYC and as a Casting Assistant for several Broadway productions.

As Creative Arts Coordinator, Kara helps CIP students to develop self-confidence, become more at ease in social situations and develop friendships while working as a team on productions and projects in drama class, glee club, and puppetry. She also serves as a job coach for students in Creative Arts internships.

Kara graduated from BCC with an AA in Theater Arts and continued her studies as a Bachelor of Music- Vocal performance major in the Opera program at SUNY Purchase. She was then accepted on a full scholarship to the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia where she spent 4 years as an Artist in Residence. Kara spent many years as a professional performer touring Nationwide and Internationally.

After she settled with her family “back” in the Berkshires in 2003, Kara worked with Students with ASD and learning differences for 2 years as a 1:1 Paraprofessional and as a reading teacher in the Central Berkshire Regional School System.

When she is not at the Spectrum Playhouse helping students to gain confidence and find joy through theater and music, Kara enjoys spending time with her 2 daughters at local theater productions, Broadway shows, or at the beach.
