Chanel is a Bay Area native who realized her passion for education and resource acquisition while navigating her own post-secondary interests. As the first in her family to pursue a four-year degree, she matriculated into Chabot College. There, the opportunities to collaborate with empowering and innovative support staff, her mentor and professors ignited a new determination within her to access higher ed.
Propelled by her curiosity for new perspectives, environments, and opportunities for growth, she began working in social and student services capacities as she transferred into the University of California, Santa Cruz. There, she completed her bachelor’s degree majoring in Psychology and minoring in Latin American Latina/o Studies.
She then worked as a para-educator with transitional age youth exploring academic, living and social skills development. This led her to pursue a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix, in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy. During that time, she worked as a College Advising Consultant for high school students in the South Bay, while completing an internship with Youth and Family Services in Fremont. It was there that she gained a new appreciation for providing a space for students and caretakers to explore their curiosities, challenges, and achievements in a safe, client-centered environment.
In 2017, she joined CIP Berkeley as Student Support Specialist and loves her time with the students and staff! Away from the office, you can find Chanel mesmerized by the plant selections of local nurseries and botanical gardens, and reading or dancing Mexican Folklórico.
