Our 2015 convocation ceremony was very successful this year. The event was held at the Grand Events Center in Long Beach. Overall, everyone had a wonderful time as there were lots of laughs and happy tears.
We awarded students and recognized staff and community members for their outstanding contribution this past year. The ceremony began with Student Ambassadors greeting 85 guests as they arrived. Staff, students, families and members of the community mingled during a slideshow presentation with the memories from the year. We also had two student speakers: Tess reflected on the lessons she learned and Paul spoke about his journey towards employment at TJ Maxx. Both students did an excellent job presenting. We recognized two outstanding community partnerships, Dream Catcher Los Angeles and Long Beach Depot for Creative Reuse for providing students with internship opportunities. We then proceeded to celebrate our awardees.

We also graduated our first two students from CIP Long Beach, Aaron T and Daniel J. Their growth and accomplishments over the last four years were acknowledged and honored with a special gift from all staff and students. As our first alumni, we had two requests from them. First, to always remember what Christopher Robin told Winne the Pooh… “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.” We also requested that Aaron and Daniel come back and visit us soon.
The ceremony ended with presenting each student with a Certificate of Completion Award for their continued effort and hard work. Congratulations for another successful year at CIP-Long Beach!
Staff of the Year
The Staff of the Year award is given to a staff member who was voted by their colleagues as the most dedicated, hardworking member of our team. I was delighted to present this award to not just one person, but two staff members. The first awardee was Aimee Cruz. Some of the comments from her colleague were that Aimee is a team player, she is responsive to the students needs and she has a positive attitude. Our next awardee was Hannah Enenbach. Some of the comments from her colleague were that Hannah is passionate about everything academic, she is dedicated and she is a role model to her fellow coworkers. CIP Long Beach is lucky to have Hannah and Aimee as part of our team.
Student of the Year
The Student of the Year award is given to a student who has excelled this past year. Our recipients are self-motivated and natural leaders in our CIP community. They took the extra steps to learn, they were willing to ask questions and brave enough to try new things. They also had excellent attendance-one student had 100% attendance. These awardees are role models for their fellow students. Our freshman “Student of the Year” awardee is Kevin W. Kevin joined CIP Long Beach January 2015 and has been a great addition to our student body. He is friendly, reliable and motivated to learn new skills. Our upper class “Student of the Year” awardee is Alex R. Alex joined CIP Long Beach in August 2013. Alex was the outgoing Student Body President, Student Ambassador and had 100% attendance this year. Both Alex and Kevin are a pleasure to work with at CIP Long Beach.
