With the start of school and the pressures of learning new schedules and being successful, students at the Brevard Center are gearing up for a Fall full of fit activities. Recently students at the Brevard Center participated in a 5K road race, Pumpkins in the Park. Six students enjoyed cheering each other on as they crossed the finish line, having completed what they never thought possible.
As students, both first year and returning, began the semester they had similar doubts and fears, challenges and strengths. With this 5K race all were able to put into practice the coping techniques and training they have learned in all areas of the College Internship Program. From stress management to running form all six were able to use new and old skills to accomplish a difficult goal. For some, the race was a physical representation of obstacles to work through, while for others it was a social arena in which to expand their verbal repertoires, and for one seasoned student runner it was a quick stroll along the scenic Indian River.
