On June 16, 2016 students from both CIP Brevard’s full year program and Mploy joined together to attended a career presentation by Disney World’s casting services. Students and staff had the opportunity to speak with six different Disney cast members who had been working at Disney World between 16 and 45 years! Students learned that Disney employs about 65,000 people; they learned about different entry level jobs, the student college program, as well as opportunities for upward movement within the company.
Disney cast members toured the students through the World of Disney Store at Disney Springs to go over employee expectations and merchandising. Students were also toured by Disney cast members through the custodial sections, and explained how they keep a place like Disney World and all of it’s parks maintained and running smoothly. Students also learned that the Magic Kingdom park is built on top of a separate building to facilitate the daily cleaning, restocking, and staffing of the park behind the scenes!
The tour ended with a visit to one of the Disney College Program’s apartment buildings where college students employed by Disney reside when they are not working. Kent, our Disney cast member guide informed our students that there are over 8,000 students currently employed for Disney and living in their college housing! Students were able to see how these students commute and live while working for Disney.
This career experience added a meaningful perspective behind a place that so many people have enjoyed and associated with a magical experience. This tour really showed that there is so much that goes into having a place like Disney World be as enjoyable as it is and it all begins with the employees who share the magic.
