Summer 2010 was a busy and productive semester at the Brevard Center. We worked hard but still had fun. We said goodbye to students moving on to new endeavors and hello to those who will be joining us in August. We also had the opportunity to spend time with high school students participating in CIP’s 2 Week Teen Summer Program at Florida Tech.
Students and staff united for a community service drive throughout the summer. We collected non-perishable food, personal hygiene products and baby products which were donated to two of our internship sites: Project Response and the Women’s Center. We also collected dog and cat food, blankets, toys and more for the animals at the South Animal Care and Adoption Center. In total, the Brevard Center donated 20 bags & boxes of much needed items.
We hosted a special “Field Day” for visiting students from the CIP Teen Summer Program, made more enjoyable by their participation in a performance by the Drama Club, and closed the semester with an orientation for incoming students which ended with “Grill ‘n Chill”, a cookout for students and staff.
While participating in special events, weekend activities, internships and community service projects, Brevard students also achieved a 3.1 average GPA in college classes.
Peter Snell received his AA from Brevard Community College and Sam Kirby earned an A+ Certification. It was a great semester and we’re looking forward to beginning the next one in August.
