I just wanted to let you all know what a pleasure it was to travel with your young adults. The Dominican Republic had a lot to offer and we got to experience a lot from their culture. The resort was gorgeous and very big. Our rooms all overlooked the resort pools and the ocean.
The beaches had soft white sand and amazing turquoise blue water. The ocean was amazing! We went on a Catamaran excursion to the Isle of Saona, a Natural Park in the Dominican Republic. The island was absolutely gorgeous.
Saona Park was lined with palm trees, and had crystal clear water to swim in. On our way back to the main land, we stopped in a “natural pool” in the middle of the ocean. The water was only about 4 feet deep and the students were able to hold a star fish that they found in the water at the natural pool.
Unfortunately the dolphin excursion was cancelled due to rough seas. We were not able to swim in the ocean for about 3 days because the water was so rough. The students were not able to take advantage of the snorkeling, kayaking, and parasailing because of the rough seas, but that certainly did not hold them back from having a good time.
The students did some bonding and got along well. They were flexible and understanding when things did not always go their way. They enjoyed swimming in the pools, climbing the rock climbing wall, jumping on the trampoline, and swinging on the trapeze that overlooked the ocean. Some students spent some time in the spa getting massages and/or their hair braided. They also enjoyed shopping at the resort. We took them to a flee market about 15 minutes from the resort where many bought souvenirs for friends and family.
Considering that the weather was a warm and sunny 85 degrees everyday, I think we did a decent job of making sure no one was badly sunburned! Everyone seemed to be very happy and in good spirits the majority of the time. Many students liked it there so much they did not want to come back! Others were getting homesick and ready to return.
Thank you all for giving your young adults this opportunity. Jan and I had a great time with the students and truly enjoyed their company!
