Mary B. joined our CIP community in March 2013. Her goals upon joining the program were to 1.) Learn independent living skills, 2.) Make new and lasting friendships, and 3.) Develop job and/or career skills. Although she has only been here for a few months, she has quickly adapted to CIP and the college environment.
An area within independent living skills where Mary has particularly excelled is in her advising sessions, specifically banking and budgeting. She is always prepared and ready for each session. She remembers to brings her receipts and bank book, and is actively engaging in taking control of her finances. She has learned to navigate through her online banking account without assistance. She has truly proven that budgeting is something that she excels at, and takes a great deal of pride in. Mary is making great success in reaching her first short-term goal to save for the upcoming winter break trip to Costa Rica. She is already managing to pay her expenses and consistently meet her savings goal.
CIP’s social thinking and social mentoring departments are working on addressing specific goals related to developing and maintaining friendships. She is currently working with the career department to update her resume and practice mock interviews in order to pursue internships in early childhood education or pet care.
Mary is developing a clearer sense of what she wants to pursue in life and receiving help with outlining the steps necessary to reach her goals.
