CIP Bloomington is happy to announce the 2011-2012 Student Senate members (in alphabetical order): Nathan, Anna, Eugene, Tema, and Valerie.
We are focusing on a more egalitarian Senate this year, in which all five Senators have equal voice and equal responsibility carrying out the duties of their office. In addition to fulfilling the traditional role of serving as liaisons between the student body and the staff, the focus for this year’s Senate is furthering an understanding of what real leadership entails.
The Senators are responsible for running the weekly Student Forum, a time for all students to meet together and discuss their thoughts and feelings about the dynamics here at CIP Bloomington and to voice any questions or suggestions they might have. In order to run the Forum efficiently, the Senators are learning to use the rules of order commonly used in meetings of clubs, organizations, and legislative groups, a process that will serve our students well both here at the Center and also as preparation for participating in such organizations in the future.
Other Senate plans for this year include inviting community leaders in for question-and-answer sessions, participating in a leadership workshop, and spearheading various projects for the student body. We look forward to a great year of leadership
