CIP alumnus Jamie Oates recently visited the Berkshire Center to attend spring convocation, meet with staff and students, and start preparing for the upcoming alumni reunion in the fall.
Jamie was impressed with The Berkshire Center’s newest acquisitions; St. George’s Church and the Baird and Benton Block building, but was even more impressed by the overall growth and evolution of the program she attended in the late 1990’s.
CIP has opened five new centers since Jamie was a student. Although there are many new faces at the Berkshire Center, Jamie was able to speak with some of her favorite staffers including Charles and Verna Houff, clinicians, and CIP founder Michael McManmon.
Jamie remarked to me that even convocation was much different than when she was at CIP but added that the singing, dancing, and acting added a splash of excitement to the ceremony.
After convocation Jamie and I met in the Berkshire Center conference room to get down to the business of her trip: planning alumni weekend. Jamie has a passion for event planning, she eventually wants to make a career switch into the field. She has been helping plan the Berkshire Center’s alumni weekend for the past few years and has a knack for choosing activities that our alumni love including hikes, meals with staff, and meet and greets with current students.
Jamie’s enthusiasm for alumni weekend and improving this event for all involved was truly motivating. I have no doubt that with the exciting changes at the Berkshire Center and Jamie’s skill in event planning that this year’s Berkshire Center alumni weekend will be a huge success!
