The CIP Student Senate knows how to get the attention of students and staff with one word, FOOD. Whether our passion is eating, cooking or both, the cook-off was an event much anticipated by all. The food was appetizers, the chefs were creative and the competition was fierce. Judging the event were Annette Corrado, Residential Staff, Ryan Therriault, Academic Coordinator, Janet Becker, Social Mentor, and Rose Dougherty, Admissions Coordinator.
Lee Kananack, Therapist, created Brie Kisses; the combination of puff pastry and cheese was delicious. Sharona Sommer, Advisor, presented Caprese Bruschetta for judging. It was a perfect mixture of tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and Italian spices. Kim Tolley, Administrative Assistant, whipped up “Kim’s Famous Queso”. It was spicy, creamy and full of flavor.
Not to be outdone by the staff, the students showed off their skills. Chris Kennedy made Mexicali Pinwheels, colorful tortilla wraps rolled up with a variety of tasty fillings. Charlie Nielsen’s Poppers were a treat with different fillings wrapped in soft, golden brown rolls. Both Matt Graham and Peter Snell went Mexican. Matt’s meaty Queso was the perfect complement to Peter’s “2900 Super Nachos”, packed with olives, peppers and other tasty tidbits.
The judges had a difficult decision to make but Sharona was victorious. Second and third place went to Chris and Charlie. The real winners, however, were those of us who sampled all the entries. Thanks, Student Senate and all our chefs, for the culinary delights.
