It has been a fantastic Fall term in our Berkeley Wellness Department! We’ve been staying active, eating healthy foods, meditating our stress away, and having lots of fun!
In our group modules, we’ve researched ingredients, learned about food processing, and explored healthy eating to culminate in an “Eat This Not That” project. Students chose an unhealthy fast food item and listed why it’s not an ideal food to eat. Then, students found a healthier version that they can make on their own or during their cooking modules!
In our Cooking class, students made a variety of delicious meals including Smoked Salmon & Dill appetizer, Raisin Bread French Toast, Chicken Salad, Spinach Pizza Bagels, Fig Bites, and even a Pumpkin Brownies as a holiday treat! Students enjoyed preparing and eating meals together!
We’ll be really getting in touch with the source of our food next term, learning more about where it comes from, how it’s grown, and what role we play in that process. It’s time to get our hands dirty and dive deep into the healing capabilities of the foods that we grow to nourish us all.
We have also had a great time on our Wellness Wilderness Days as we explored the Marin Headlands, Marine Mammal Center, Golden Gate Bridge, Presidio, Crissy Field, and had an amazing trip to Point Reyes for Horseback Riding! We have fresh ideas for more exciting trips!
