Community Service is an important part of our program here at Brevard and students began this semester by volunteering for a Saturday morning beach clean-up in Cocoa Beach sponsored by The Surfrider Foundation. Taylor B., Charlie N., Dane S. and Colin Z. pitched in to work with others in the community to keep our beaches clean and healthy.
The next day, Dave F. and Dodge M. had planned to spend time exploring Samson Island (on the Banana River) so they could observe local birds and animals. During their hike, they ran into a group of volunteers who were cleaning up the island. They were destroying non-native plants as well as clearing away debris. Dave and Dodge decided to join the group’s efforts. While it was hard work, both students found it very rewarding. The experience proved that volunteering doesn’t have to be scheduled. It can happen anytime or anywhere as long as there is a willingness to help.
Thanks to all our students for following through on their commitments and finding opportunities to help make our community a better place.
