For National Autism Awareness Day, April 2, the Bloomington Center was invited to Alpha Xi Delta Sorority’s National Philanthropy Brunch for Autism Speaks. Kayle Lewis, the Career Coordinator, and students Adria Nassim and Anna Harner attended the event as Alpha Xi’s guests of honor.
Anna and Adria canvassed the room speaking to sisters about CIP and their own personal stories with Autism working to raise awareness and help dispel some of the myths and stories about Autism. “It’s amazing, there’s no other way to describe it, “said Anna when asked how she felt about a sorority taking on a philanthropy like Autism Speaks.
She continued, “After speaking to these girls it gave me a wakeup call that my stereotypes of sorority girls were wrong like their stereotypes of people with Autism were wrong.”
