On June 3, 2011, a beautiful spring afternoon at Tanglewood, four Berkshire Center students walked up on the stage, in caps and gowns, and accepted their degree or certificate at the Berkshire Community College graduation.
Zach Zeller received his Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts. He will continue living in Lee and will be working, although he is also considering continuing his education. Jessica Griffith received her Intermediate Early Childhood Certificate and has already begun working in childcare.
Lucy Gable received her Introductory Early Childhood Certificate, and will stay at BCC to go on to the next certificate level. She is currently working in the childcare field. Eric Sundman received his Culinary Certificate. He has had several jobs in local restaurants and will use his experience and education to realize his dream.
Jennifer Hersch received an Intermediate Early Childcare certificate in December, 2010, and has been very busy working in her field.
The graduation was attended by proud parents and family members of Zach, Jessica, Lucy and Eric. Some CIP staff and students attended as well. It was truly exciting to see the culmination of hard work, perseverance and overcoming obstacles. These students beamed with joy and pride as did their families, and staff who had witnessed the arduous process.
After the ceremony, walking across stage, smiling, shaking hands, and accepting their degree or certificate, Zach, Jessica, Lucy and Eric walked up a long aisle way to the applause of all the attendees. Then they proceeded through a corridor of all BCC faculty and staff with the loudest applause of all.
Beyond awaited their families who were visibly proud and overjoyed. CIP students and staff were there to congratulate them. Pictures were taken of graduates with each other, with their friends and with their families. It was a wonderful day!
